About

”These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.” – Deuteronomy 6:6-8

God desires a relationship with each of us, regardless of our age. At St. Matthew’s all ages are encouraged “to seek and to serve” Jesus Christ. This mission begins in the Children’s Ministry.

Our Mission

From our tiny infants through the fifth grade, we strive to offer a safe, biblically-based and family-oriented atmosphere. Through the continuum of Sunday School, our desire is to enable children to grow into the mission of St. Matthew’s – “to know Christ and make Him known through the power of the Holy Spirit by devotion to Christ, fellowship within the church, and revelation of God's nature in word and deed.”

Our Curriculum

We use a Biblically sound curriculum from Children Desiring God. Each classroom is appropriately equipped for each age grouping. There are also two adult teachers per classroom. The picture to the right shows our '08 end-of-year thank-you event for our dedicated teachers.

Our Sunday School

Sunday School throughout the church year begins at 9:15 for all ages. Children grades Kindergarten through 5th meet in their classrooms The regular school year runs from September through mid-June.

We take two weeks off at the end of the school year and at the end of Summer Sunday School. For Summer Sunday School we meet as a group, grades, Pre-K through 5th and study a variety of topics, such as missions, worship, etc…following the same time schedule, 9:15 to 10:15.

Other Activites

Other activities of the Children’s Christian Education include a yearly Christmas Pageant, a Lenten series geared for children of all ages, quarterly “Moms and Dads Get-away” with free babysitting for an afternoon, community oriented Vacation Bible School (picture from VBS '07--Rainforest Adventure), and intergenerational Sunday School activities.
